Don't FORGET

hey guys,

don't forget to turn in your design proposals over e-mail today. due at midnight. if don't get them...grade for these will go down. remember these gates are important to your sketchbook. be sure to have you contract ready to go with your branding as well. start printing off things for your design folder. for friday...please have a printed off copy of your design proposal and contract in your job folder. keep clicking along on the torch. don't forget to pull content and remember full rough needs to finished up for monday.

CLIENT BRIEF
To Whom It May Concern:

The staff of Union University’s Literary Arts Magazine, The Torch, requests a proposal for a design editor for the 2011 edition of the Torch. We are looking for an original design that work to complement both the text and the visual elements in a literary arts magazine. We are not interested in Torch imagery, Olympic themes, gender-specific artwork, or designs including photographs of real individuals.

Each design should include the following elements: page numbers, table of contents, and a biography page. The cover design should include the following items: date, name of the magazine, and the words “literary arts magazine” and “Union University.”

The individual whose design is selected must be available and willing to work with the Torch Staff to improve the design, input content, finalize changes on the magazine, and go with the Torch Staff to explain the design to the printers. He or she will be on call from April 11-15. All dates are subject to change.

Spring Break!!

Okay guys, it's finally here! Get some rest because as soon as you get back we are hitting the ground running with The Torch. Keep in mind on this project there will be some hard deadlines that you will have to meet to get your full sketchbook grade. This will be important to keeping the grade high so keep up the good work and keep going strong to the end. After this only 6 weeks left of the semester!

Critique on Friday, March 18

Okay...so just a few more hurtles till you can sprint out the door till spring break and one of them is critique on Friday. Hang in there guys! Here's Rob's number that you can apply to things it's 731.388.9219...his e'mail if you want that for business cards is rtalsobrook@gmail.com.

Here's the list to make sure that you have...
1. logo
2. business card
3. letterhead
4. envelope
5. website / think about including buttons for social media (this hits two birds and one stone)
6. interiors
7. exteriors
8. menu
9. estimates / this should be on your invoice
10. job folder this should contain - design proposal / job approval form filled out / printer quote filled out / estimate (invoice) for both interior and exterior / copy of all your printed material and website printed out and put into the job folder. Please have these bound in there so not to loose them.

* Anything additional to this list is 10 pts extra credit to your grade and also separates you out from the competition. Keep in mind that each piece is important and will be graded as an individual. Don't slack on one element because it will grade and quality of overall down.

Monday, March 7th

Hey guys,

Time to get working for Red Door. Have some logos nailed down and get busy on starting the long to do list. Our critique will be the 18th so keep that goal in mind. For Monday, I know we haven't talked much about the book for this class but we are about to. Please read the intro chapter, the self-promotion and clients chapters for Monday. Also bring your copy along to class...we will be using it. Have a good weekend and those traveling from Texas have a safe trip back!
