Critique will be with Dr. Halla in GRAPHICS LAB (RESOURCE ROOM IS BOOKED) at 2 pm on Thursday. Please have your files ready to present on screen and in hand. Be ready to hand him your job folder and look at the printed as well as digital work while you present. Be dressed for presentation.

No class on Tuesday due to doctor's appointment. Please send me roughs as you work on Dr. Halla's package so I can have something to proof in between before Thursday. Please get all the job folder's ready to go out the door - see last post. Don't forget to meet with the Star Center to finish up the RockNRide project requirements, make edits to you personal branding package and work on Dr. Halla's brand. THIS IS THE DAY - Capstone projects need to be up, finalized and ready to critique. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD AND PROFESSIONAL. THIS IS A BIG PART OF YOUR GRADE!!

Not requiring a job folder. Just final project on this! Be ready to talk. No need to dress up, will just be us looking at the work. Focus on putting out the best quality work, the rest will fall into place. Good luck! We will look at Dr. Halla's work at the end of the critique.

Also don't forget to send the RockNRide material onto the Star Center. Make the changes and CC me on the email to Sherri and Jon. Ask if they need anything else...if not we will get the job folder ready to look over on Thursday.

We will jet out after one of the presentations to get a recap of work (please bring computer files of final capstone works on laptops to review), talk about status of the RockNRide, read over pitches for Dr. Halla's brand. Start work on the job folder for your Dr. Halla work. Please be keeping track of your hours for the RockNRide project so you can give a good invoice at the end of it.

We need your finalized pitches for the storyboard for RockNRide on Thursday.

Becca - Brittany will be sending you the poster pdf for RockNRide please use the logo and appropriate graphics for your materials and start to have roughs to look at for the assigned material printed for your job folder on Thursday. Brittany - please have the same.

Brittany's Mt. Torch design was chosen by the Torch staff. We will be working on the Torch material on Thursday so please meet in the lab instead of my office. We have a perspective transfer student attending class so don't be surprised when the class population doubles.

Brittany - Keep working on your capstone. Finalize your business card and letterhead look. Decide on look for website and newsletter. Keep clicking along on your personal project.

Becca - I need to see some finalized layouts. Like I said make sure that these have the elements needed be a design magazine. Start working on your front cover design even if its on a dummy photo for now. We need to see some designs as well as the photos. Go back to your magazine notes to see what are some of the elements to include. Keep going on your personal project.

FOR TORCH

We will be meeting with the Torch staff to do our pitch at 4:30 pm on Thursday, April 7 in the resource room in the art department. You need to get there a little early to set up your computers to the projector before the meeting and pull up issuu. Please dress in business casual for the meeting and be prepared to talk about both looks.

For Critique you will need:

FOR YOUR PERSONAL FOLDER

1. Please start tracking your hours for your invoice in the job folder. Fill out your contracts if you haven't already done so.
2. Visual Briefs - 3 total (one for logo, one for pitch one - looks for flyers, one for pitch two - looks for flyers)
3. Pitch (printed and typed for your ideas for the RockNRide material)
4. You will print out a revised visual brief for the combo
5. revised proposal (team)
6. Approval sheet to sign on Tuesday for when they decide what they are going to go with for the pitch.

-You need this before you meeting together where you are going to discuss your material that you've found and your ideas to come up with the grand pitch that you are going to send me and the client.

FOR MONDAY
You need to have a revised pitch that incorporates both of your ideas and input. Remake the visual brief to be explanitory to the client. (aka walk through font, color, and looks - don't overload them. 2 pages should do it). Write the new proposal together and present two options for looks. I will send this onto the team to look over before the phone meeting on Tuesday.

Start working up some thumbnails of logo looks to discuss in class on Tuesday after we walk through the pitch.

We will not have class tomorrow. Sorry really overdid it today with first day on crutches. So no meeting in my office until Thursday.

Okay so for Thursday. Bring these items to class:

Please have a written proposal for your personal project. This will need title of project, details, schedule and signature approval line for you and Ms. Posey. Please design this and bring it printed to class on Thursday.

Please have the first draft of your senior project. This will have title, details of project, examples of other artists that are inspiring this direction and schedule. This too needs a signature approval line for Ms. Posey and yourself.

Please have some thumbnails, visual brief and ideas for your brand. Please have a page of words that also are associated with the brand that you will later use in the language of developing your business plan, etc.

We will hit the ground running on Thursday so be ready to take a lot of notes. See ya then!

Please come with you ideas for your personal project, your capstone project and your brand for Tuesday. Things to think about with your brand:

Do you want to look like a bigger agency?
What verbiage do you want to describe your business or your process?
What are some items, things, animals, experiences that you want to identify with your creative process?
What color scheme goes with this brand?
What type of font?
Do you want a logo or a mark or is a logotype enough?

All things to think about moving forward.

Welcome to Design Practicum. This blog will be there to support you through your projects, help you keep track of assignments and additional material that this course will provide you for your own freelance business.
